Coliseum bouldering

Kong Climbing was commissioned to design, manufacture, and install a dynamic bouldering facility for Coliseum Bouldering, with the goal of creating a modern climbing environment that balances performance, accessibility, and visual impact. From the outset, the project focused on developing a space that would appeal to climbers of all abilities while supporting high route-setting flexibility and long-term durability. Working closely with the client team, we translated their vision into a functional layout that maximises climbing density while maintaining clear circulation and spectator spaces throughout the venue.

Our design approach centred on creating varied wall angles and movement styles to encourage progression and creativity. The structure incorporates a combination of steep overhangs, technical slabs, and competition-style features, allowing setters to continually refresh the climbing experience. All walls were engineered and fabricated using Kong Climbing’s modular steel framework system, ensuring structural integrity, precision installation, and adaptability for future modifications. Careful attention was given to fall zones, padding integration, and compliance with current safety standards, delivering a facility that prioritises both performance and user safety.

Throughout the build phase, Kong Climbing managed fabrication, logistics, and on-site installation, coordinating closely with other trades to maintain programme timelines and quality control. The installation process emphasised efficiency and minimal disruption, enabling the project to progress smoothly from concept to completion. High-quality surface finishes and durable textures were selected to withstand heavy usage while maintaining consistent climbing friction and aesthetic appeal.

The completed Coliseum Bouldering facility represents a collaborative achievement between client and builder, resulting in a vibrant community-focused climbing space designed for longevity. The venue now offers a versatile platform for training, recreational climbing, and competitive events, reflecting Kong Climbing’s commitment to delivering innovative climbing environments that combine technical excellence with engaging user experience.
